Quick highlights

A real balance ledger

Each card keeps its own balance. Shoppers can spend part of it, come back later, and refunds restore what was used on that order.

Fixed or custom amounts

Sell $25 / $50 / $100 variants, or let the buyer type an amount with a min and max you set on that product.

Scheduled delivery with PDF and QR

Send now or on a chosen date and hour. Attach a printable PDF and a QR code that applies the card at checkout.

How to set up a gift card product

A gift card is a normal FluentCart product with a Gift Card Settings widget. There is no separate product type to create.

1

Create a one-time FluentCart product

Use a one-time price. Subscription and installment prices are blocked with a save error. Simple variants work for fixed denominations such as $25, $50 and $100.

2

Mark it as a gift card

Open the Gift Card Settings widget on the product edit screen and tick Yes, this product is a Gift Card. That is the only flag that makes codes issue from this product.

3

Choose fixed or custom amounts

Leave Allow custom amount off to sell the listed price. Tick it to let buyers type a value, then set Minimum amount and Maximum amount, or leave them empty for no limit.

4

Treat it as a digital item

The plugin does not force shipping or stock off. Configure those in FluentCart the way you would for any digital product.

5

Confirm gift cards are enabled

In Gift Card, Settings, General, leave Enable Gift Cards on. Turning it off stops new cards from paid orders and hides the checkout wallet.

6

Optional: add a balance page

No redeem or balance page is created on activation. Add [cartcubes_giftcard_balance] to any page if you want a public lookup form.

When the code is generated and delivered

Codes are created when the order is paid, not when it is placed. Delivery can be immediate or scheduled.

1

Nothing happens until the order is paid

Cards issue on FluentCart's paid-order event. Unpaid, processing-only, or cancelled-before-pay orders never create a code.

2

One card per unit

Each quantity becomes its own card. Multi-recipient orders split one card per recipient. A re-run of the same paid order cannot double-issue.

3

The code follows your pattern

Default prefix is GIFT and the default pattern is {prefix}-XXXX-XXXX-XX, using an alphabet with no 0, O, 1 or I. Example: GIFT-A3K7-M9P2-QR.

4

No delivery date means send now

The card becomes Active and the Gift Card Delivery email goes out immediately. The purchaser also gets a Purchase Receipt if that email is enabled.

5

A future date means wait

A Deliver on date (plus optional At hour) keeps the card Pending until then. Delivery is scheduled, defaulting to 9:00 am store time if no hour is chosen, with an hourly safety net.

6

Refunds restore spend, then handle the issued cards

A refund puts spent balance back on cards used on that order. Cards issued by that purchase are then voided, suspended, or left active, matching the On Refund setting.

Where the gift card shows up

Purchase happens on the product page. Redemption uses FluentCart checkout. Customers can also manage cards in their account.

1

On the product page

Buyers see the amount field (if custom amounts are on) plus Recipient name, Recipient email, From, Message, Deliver on and At. Quantity 2 with multiple recipients shows Recipient 1 and Recipient 2.

2

On the cart and checkout lines

Each gift card line shows Gift card value and a read-only recap of the recipient details the buyer entered.

3

At checkout, as a coupon or wallet

Codes apply through FluentCart's own coupon field. If Show Have a Gift Card on checkout is on, logged-in customers also see Your available cards with an Apply button next to each balance.

4

In the customer dashboard

A Gift Cards tab lists Received cards (code, status, balance, expires, print and history) and Purchased cards (recipient, amount, remaining, status, delivery), plus an Add a gift card field.

5

On a public balance page

The [cartcubes_giftcard_balance] shortcode shows a Gift card code field and Check balance button, then the balance, status and expiry. Lookups are throttled.
